Mission
Our aim is to provide multiple intelligence-based instruction that scaffolds to a level of mastery learning and critical thinking. Our environment is structured in a way to empower each individual. Upon graduation we want our students to possess a positive self image, be good problem solvers, self-directed, community focused and effective in leading, collaborating and thinking critically and creatively about the world around them.
Philosophy
The purpose of the school is to target and enrich the academic, social/emotional and physical needs of children in a setting that nurtures and challenges their intelligences for maximum development and inner discipline. The school respects the many differences among its students: the multiple ways that they learn, the varied modes by which they can be assessed, the creative ways they may invent and the infinite ways they can make a difference and leave their unique mark on the world..
More Than Multiple Intelligences
Stellar Academy uses individualized education plans, experiential learning and a very well organized environment, as a way to frame curriculum and instruction. The results are learning experiences that students find enriching, meaningful and enjoyable. Furthermore, we focus on helping students appreciate the differences of others. To that end, issues which advance diversity are an integral part of our program.
Leadership through the Intrapersonal and Interpersonal Intelligences
Stellar Academy relates to the total development of children. We are focused and intentional in our efforts to provide opportunities to develop intelligences that are intrapersonal (knowing oneself) and interpersonal (the ability to work well with others). Through these personal intelligences our students begin to develop a sense of self, appreciate differences and celebrate diversity. Leadership through the personal intelligences enhances our school environment.
The personal intelligences also propel students into action and give them power when they feel powerless. Starting at kindergarten and on through grade eight, students are asked to consider their personal strengths and weaknesses. Teachers emphasize the advantages of having a strong set of values and students are encouraged to demonstrate active citizenship.
To help them lead fulfilling lives, we support children to think about what it means to be healthy – socially, mentally, and emotionally. On a daily basis, Stellar Academy students are given tools to value diversity, to treat others with respect and be responsible, caring members of society both individually, as leaders and collaborators. Through the personal intelligences students recognize that who they are is just as important as what they know.
